Success Story: Matt
Park City High School teacher Matt Nagel talks about benefiting from the Owner Builder Program and how obtaining affordable housing in Summit County made it…
Mutual Self-Help Housing, sponsored by MCHT and USDA Rural Development, makes housing affordable through “sweat equity." Six to 12 families work together a minimum of 30 hours weekly per family under the guidance of a construction supervisor. The supervisor teaches the necessary skills to build the home.
The labor acts as the down payment and reduces the price of the home. There is additional reduced interest rate assistance for qualified families that keeps the monthly house payment affordable. Applicants cannot currently own a home and must meet loan qualifications.
